school trip to Kyoto Railway Museum

First school trip to Kyoto Railway Museum, train ride + museum visit. A break from the daily lesson, and a chance to have a lunch / bento picnic at the park before going to the museum.

Glad it was a sunny day that day, meaning a good day for a picnic but hot weather to walk to the park. Once you get off the station, you will be able to see the Kyoto Tower right in front.

20 mins walking ..

Lunch time!! Tried making my own mini wraps rice, which tasted not bad for a first timer... Just a remember to bring a plastic bag along to keep your rubbish, as it was kind of difficult to find a rubbish bin in the park itself.

If you explore a bit in the park, you will be able to find old train carriers, which sell desserts, stuffs and one that you can enter to just sit down and feel how it is like being inside. This remind me of a scene in Spirited Away, where they took the train to look for the Granny.

Next stop - Kyoto Railway Museum, photos time!

Those retro-looking trains ~

Exercise time! haha...

There is a food corner, where they show about the type of food found in the station or train in the past.

manga and books about the trains...

Bridge leading from the second floor to the outdoor part of the museum.

Took the Steam Train ride, which cost 300 yen (about SGD $3.60+). The ride is a little slow and short distance actually, but it will be fun for the kids I guess.

Don't forget about the rooftop space at the third floor of the museum, the view is nice as you get the to see a lot, especially the vast sky above you.

...

Here the location:
Kankijicho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture 600-8835

It will takes approximately 20 minutes on foot from the central gate of JR Kyoto Station to the park, which the museum is located. There is also an aquarium located in the park as well, if you are interested to visit.

This Railway Museum will be fun for kids especially, as there are fun stuffs to entertain them actually. Did not really explore the museum much as we got too distracted with catching the steam train and the rooftop, plus only got a short period to explore since we got to take the train back to Osaka as per the time schedule given.
